“I” To “We” Assessment
by Barbara Brown, Ph.D.

If you want to deliver as well as inspire outstanding performance, then you must identify the mutual benefits of pursuing a common purpose. When you do that, the focus is on what’s in it for us (“we”) rather than what’s in it for me (“I”). Use this quiz to see how effective you are at embracing and creating a “we” perspective.

Scoring:

3 = Always
2 = Most of the time
1 = Some of the time
0 = None of the time


_______ 1. When I perform in a follower capacity, I determine the needs, expectations, or wants of the leader.

_______ 2. When I perform in a leader capacity, I determine the needs, expectations, or wants of followers.

_______ 3. I know how to assist followers in transitioning from a focus on “what’s in it for me” to a focus on “what’s in it for us.”
