Time-Tested Tips For
Getting Recognized

By Barbara Brown, Ph.D.

For speedy recognition and advancement, you must link contributions to bottom-line results. Look at your organization's strategic goals and assess the relevant strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This information should dictate your performance and development.

Use these strategies as a guide:

  1. Learn your organization's mission, vision, and values statements.
  2. Determine how services and products relate to the mission, vision, and values.
  3. Assess how your tasks facilitate achievement of the mission, vision, and values.
  4. Identify how your performance contributes to delivery of products and services.
  5. List skills that allow outstanding performance in relevant areas.
  6. Develop additional skills needed to maintain high levels of performance.
  7. Tie all your activities to organizational achievements.
